Ancient Art Studios

Mission Statement

What is my mission?

To create a welcoming, belly-dance-oriented studio where dancers of all styles and regional affiliations feel at home. Feeling sacred and personal to each person using it, my hope is that this studio will be looked at like a temple tucked away just for women's dance or a beloved belly dance clubhouse.

How I plan to achieve my mission:

  1. By keeping the studio belly dance oriented.
    • By having a flyer table about belly dance events and classes at the studio AND at other studios.
    • By openly promoting teachers at the studio and at other studios.
    • By offering little belly dance extras, such as art depicting women of all nations dancing, extra safety pins and static guard in the bathroom, etc.
    • By keeping communication open with the dance community to see what is wanted and needed.
  2. By making clear how it can be used. At this time, I project that the space can be used:
    • For teachers, looking to rent space for classes, workshops, privates, small recitals, dance parties.
    • For students looking to attend any of the above.
    • For teachers, students or troupes looking for space to rehearse.
    • For dancers looking for safe, non-club, venue to perform in (at dance parties held here).
    • For myself to teach to teach beginner classes starting this fall.
  3. By offering myself.
Unlike other studios, the keeper of this space is a great patron of belly dance, me! I can help with sponsorship of events, if that is desired. I can post ads in publications and web-sights send flyers to area teachers and handle the registration process for belly dance events, if desired. Of course, if teachers or workshops or classes want to handle all of these themselves, I can also rent the studio for a flat fee and stay out of it entirely.

Why this is my mission?

  1. To be uplifting to women.
Belly dance has done so much for me physically, emotionally and socially as a woman. I long to give it away. If my space and my efforts here can be a part passing along empowerment, body confidence, social connection and skills of dance to other women, I would be thrilled.
  2. To be involved in furthering the art form.
Through classes and events here, I hope to further populate the belly dance student base in my area and to improve the quality of dancer. More dancers and better dancers means more work for teachers, more performances and more respect for this ancient art form.
  3. To further my own education.
I am personally excited to have more events in my space and to become more connected to events happening in other South Shore studios so I can attend them.
  4. To be financially responsible.
We are not depending on this venture for building a huge stream of revenue but we do have to cover the costs of creating, running and maintaining the space. I, also have to respect the costs of my husband's and my time and efforts in maintaining the space or should I be in the sponsorship or teaching roles for events here. Hopefully, this space and our efforts will be worth the fees to the community at large. If we cannot run it with a slight profit margin, I will, at least, still have the studio for my own practice and possible teaching.
