Pop Pilates
Join Ancient Art Studios for 8 weeks of kicking the new year into a state of happy-sweat with, guest teacher, Mac A. Carvalho (Drop-in’s welcome, too. $16). Mac, a trained dancer with a contagious love of wellness, will inspire students to rhythmically flow from one exercise to the next, developing a rock-solid core while leaving no muscle untouched. Choreographed to your favorite Top 40 hits Mac’s Pop Pilates classes are a fun and challenging mat-based fusion of ab-chiseling and total body defining moves that men, women, and kids over 12 will love. Aurel recently introduced Mac to a group of students as “my secret weapon” because his classes became such a part of her workout routine in 2018. *No class 1/26. Pop up class will be offered in another style that week for those who wish to take it. Let’s do this!
Belly Dance Strong Express
BDSXpress empowers movement ability for all levels and styles. Though 10 weeks long (drop-ins welcome), the principles contained in BDSX are the lifelong essentials all dancers internalize for safe and fulfilling dancing. BDSX opens the minds and bodies to the drivers behind the movements through focusing weekly on technique, strength, and stamina issues as they pertain to specific moves in belly dance. For years of safe, supported, and magical movement in any style, for a stronger execution and physical confidence (no falling out of moves), and for more expressive, empowered, and fluent dancing, Belly Dance Strong (Xpress)!
Zills, Drills, and Combo Thrills
2019 welcomes the return of the sweaty and passionate 10 week long drills class (Drop ins welcome). Intermediate level dancers looking to “own” their skills will play finger cymbals each week, delve deeper into accent moves, isolations, traveling steps, shimmy layers, props, and, of course, through micro-combinations, begin to build connections between movements, music, eras, icons, regions, folkloric and classical styles within this glorious art form. Cultural context will be rienforced via video clips, handouts, and field trips.
